It's always strange how a couple of days turns into a couple of weeks.
just the other day, or so it seems I was in the garden looking at my new apple trees and suddenly they have taken off. New buds are sprouting all the way up the rootstocks. There are hints of buds on the Scions, so it looks like the grafts have taken. I have removed the lower shoots now, just leaving a couple just below the graft. This is for two reasons. This is to force the energy up into the Scion. Leaving a a couple are a safety precaution in case the graft fails. The rootstock will be able to be reused next year if that is the case.
by next spring I should have 7 healthy new trees. Lots of lovely apples. Mmmmm.
